Many of us live in homes that are more than one level. In a place like Las Vegas, this can mean that your upper level is often much warmer than your lower level is. It can make for some uncomfortable nights during the summer. There are a few solutions to solve this problem for you and create a more comfortable space for you this summer. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to share some solutions to your cooling woes.
AC Maintenance Helps Keep Your Upper-Level Cool
If you are struggling with a hot upstairs, having regular maintenance performed on your AC unit can help solve the problem. This involves a thorough cleaning, lubricating parts, replacing filters and ensuring your unit is up for the task at hand. You should also look at the insulation and venting in your attic to help keep the temperature down in your upstairs.
How Do I Cool Down My Upper Floor?
There is nothing worse than trying to sleep in the upstairs of your home when it is hot and uncomfortable. Some people can adapt to it, but the vast majority like to sleep in a cool space. Here are some solutions to this problem.
– High Return: When there is a large amount of hot air trapped in your attic, it can create a hot space in your upstairs level. If you have a return duct at the highest point in your home that can draw that hot air and return it back to your AC system, it will do wonders to help cool off your upper level.
– Multi-Stage or Modulating Systems: If you have an older AC system, there are probably not any speeds other than full speed. When you have a multi-stage or modular system, they run at a lower speed for a longer period of time to give you an even cooling result. This uses less energy as well as less wear and tear on your system. Since they aren’t starting and stopping so often, they don’t use as much energy.
– Separate Systems: Sometimes, it doesn’t matter what you do, the unit you have simply isn’t strong enough to get the cool air up to your upper level. In these instances, we recommend putting a second unit in your home that only focuses on cooling your upper level. If your attic has the room for a unit, that is a great option. If you don’t, you can look at other options including ductless split systems or a high-velocity system to help you get the temperature upstairs under control.
