If an air conditioner isn’t designed to put out the amount of air necessary to cool the inside space, it must work longer and often nonstop since it will never be able to bring the temperature down fast enough. When a unit is too small it’s not only working nonstop, it is also wearing down faster. However, too large of an air conditioner unit can have its own problems as well. Check the coils and see it they are dirty, covered in mud, or have debris stuck inside. It is important to keep the coils clean for proper circulation.
Poor Air Sealing Techniques
If the home has poor insulation and gets heated quickly, then this can cause the air conditioner to work harder and more frequently. The problem can also be due to a leak in the air ducts. Inspect the air ducts for leaks along the joints and seams and see if all of your air is flowing out of the air ducts and not into your home. If the inside isn’t cooling down then again, it will run continually.
