There are certainly signs that start to pop up here and there when it’s time to get your furnace tuned up. Here are some of the signs that you should be looking for.
– Strange Furnace Noises: Of course, when your furnace kicks on, it isn’t going to be silent. However, you shouldn’t hear loud, strange sounds either. Strange sounds are usually a big sign that something is wrong and needs to be repaired.
– Short Cycling of Furnace: When your furnace is constantly turning on only to turn off a few minutes later, this is known as short cycling. This means that your furnace isn’t able to get through a complete cycle. The furnace won’t have time to reach the optimal temperature when this happens. It can lead to big furnace problems as this is extremely hard on your furnace.
– High Heating Energy Bills: If you notice that there is a sudden increase in your heating bill, it can be due to a furnace issue. When your furnace isn’t working properly, it is more than likely not working efficiently either. This can lead to more energy usage than normal and higher utility bills.
– Poor Indoor Air Comfort: The entire reason you have a furnace is so that you can be comfortable no matter what the weather is doing outside. If your furnace isn’t doing that, and you are feeling hot and cold spots in your house, you need to have your furnace checked out.
– Yellow Pilot Light on Furnace: the pilot light found in your furnace should always be blue. If it is starting to look yellow or orange, it can be a sign of a dangerous carbon monoxide leak. It also means that your furnace isn’t burning fuel efficiently.
