Make Sure Your Condenser is Clean & Clear

Many people don’t realize how important it is that the condenser on their unit is clean. If you don’t know what this is, it is a large fan that is located on your outdoor unit. This fan needs to be clean and clear of any debris or it can have a negative impact on your energy usage as well as the efficiency of your AC unit. Because it is located outdoors, it isn’t uncommon for leaves and other debris to get caught up in there. Make sure you’re checking it throughout the summer to make sure that there isn’t anything that needs to be cleaned out of there. If it didn’t get a good cleaning during your maintenance appointment, you are going to want to get that done as it can impact your energy bill every month.

Ensure Air Vents are Open

It is easy enough to forget about the vents in your home that deliver that cool air throughout the house. However, it isn’t something that you certainly should be paying attention to. You want to take the vent covers off of all of your vents and check for any debris that could have fallen into the vent and is causing airflow restriction. When you put the covers back on your vents, make sure they are completely open so the air can freely flow.

Seal Home to Keep Cool Air In

To make sure the cool air that is delivered by your AC system remains in your home, make sure there aren’t any gaps and cracks throughout your home that could allow that air to escape. You need to check all of your windows and doors to make sure the caulking around them doesn’t need to be touched up. If there are large gaps, make sure you seal them using insulation.

Change Air Filter

You need to be replacing your AC filter throughout the summer months to keep your AC working as efficiently as possible. This is something that may be easy enough to forget about, but it can have a large impact on your unit’s efficiency as well.
