We are still using our furnaces to inch our way toward the spring and summer months. Most of us still rely on our furnaces to keep us warm as we get closer to May. Even though spring and summer are almost here, you still might need to give your furnace some attention if it starts to show signs of trouble. Sometimes, you could have an issue with your furnace, but it will still turn on and attempt to heat your home. However, if you are aware of some of the early warning signs, you can catch furnace repairs before they become a large issue that is more expensive to fix. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to talk about some early warning signs that can point to furnace problems.
Air Conditioner Short Cycling
If you haven’t ever experienced short cycling, you might not know what it is. If you find that your furnace turns on only to shut off again before it has completely heated the house, it is known as short cycling. This is incredibly hard on your furnace and is usually something that happens when there is a problem somewhere. Whether it is because of an electrical issue or something else, you need to have a professional heating technician take a look at your furnace to figure out what is the cause of the short cycling. This is often one of the first signs that show up when there is something that needs to be repaired.
Uneven Heating in Home
When your heat is on, you shouldn’t have any spots in your home that are cold. The heat should permeate your home and leave every single area of your home comfortable. When you experience some portions of your home that aren’t comfortable, it can mean that there is a problem with your furnace. Anytime there is a room in your home that doesn’t seem to be getting the heat that it needs to be comfortable, it is a sign that something is wrong.
Yellow Furnace Pilot Light
The pilot light on your furnace should never be yellow. If the pilot light is lit, it should be blue. A yellow pilot light indicates that the furnace isn’t getting enough oxygen. It isn’t something that you want to ignore as it can be a problem that gets considerably worse the longer you go without solving the problem. You want the pilot light to be blue as it is a safety concern for everyone in the home when the pilot light turns yellow.
High Heating Bills
If you are like most people, you probably know about what your energy bill looks like each month. If you notice that there is a sudden spike in your energy bills, it could be a sign that your furnace has an issue and is using far more energy than it should to heat your home. You can compare your energy bill each month to the energy bills from the previous year to see what kind of increase you are dealing with.
