Switching from Heat to Cool Air Conditioning in Enterprise, NV; How to Turn on AC

Here in the Las Vegas Valley the weather right now is all over the place. One week you need your winter parka because we are getting a few inches of snow and the next week you can walk around in flip flops and a short sleeve shirt. Knowing what to wear from day to day can be hard! It can be even harder to know what to do with your heating and air conditioning system. So if one day you need your heater to stay warm and the next day you feel like you need your air conditioner on so that you are not dying of heat what do you do? Is it good for your air conditioning system to switch from the heater to the air conditioner from week to week? Does switching it back and forth waste money? Does it put your HVAC unit in unnecessary strain? Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning wants to answer all of your questions on this topic.

How to Turn on Central Air Conditioner

The truth is that you do not have to sweat one day or freeze the next just to avoid switching your heating and air conditioning system back and forth. You can indeed safely switch your system on a regular basis to keep your family comfortable. We do recommend that you let your unit completely finish the heating or cooling cycle that it is on first. Once your unit has stopped running turn it off from your thermostat for five minutes. After you have given it five minutes you can go ahead and switch it back on in the mode that you need to get your house to the desired temperature. It is important you take the step of letting it sit there for five minutes before making the switch. This will give your HVAC system time to get back to its starting pressure. Switching your unit right from heat to air while the pressure is high may cause issues with your compressor. When that happens you may blow a fuse or trip a breaker. After giving your system a minute to release pressure you will want to ease your system into the new temperature that you want to set it at. If you make your temperature extremely different your system will have to overwork to get your home to the correct temperature. Raise or lower your temperature by only a few degrees at a time.
