Natural Gas VS Electric Furnace in Sun City Summerlin, NV; Unit & Operation Cost, Lifespan & More

While it is never ideal to face furnace replacement, it happens to the best of us at one point or another. If you are faced with replacing your furnace, you need to consider all of your options. While most of the country has furnaces that run on natural gas, there are some areas that don’t have great access to natural gas and will have to look at other options for their furnace like propane or electricity. Today, Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning is here to talk about the difference between a gas or electric furnace and weigh the pros and cons.

Electric Furnace

If you are looking at the price tag for a new furnace, you may notice that a furnace that uses electricity to run will cost nearly half as much as one that uses natural gas to operate. A new gas furnace usually costs between $2,000 and $3,000 to replace while you can find one that is electric for around $1,000 and $1,500 brand new. The biggest benefit of choosing an electric furnace is the sticker price. They have coils within them that heat up and generate hot air to be distributed throughout your house. Their design is much more simplistic which means you can count on them lasting quite a bit longer than a gas furnace as well. Most gas furnaces last between 15 and 20 years and you can usually get 20 to 30 years out of an electric furnace. Another pro to their simple design is the lack of repairs that are usually needed. You also won’t need to worry about carbon monoxide issues with an electric furnace.

Natural Gas Furnaces

There is a reason that natural gas furnaces are the most common choice in homes. They may cost more upfront, but generally speaking it costs less to heat your house with natural gas rather than electricity. When they do kick on, you can count on a natural gas furnace heating your home in a fraction of the time that it takes an electric furnace as well. Really, the only reason you would want to go with an electric furnace would be if you didn’t have access to natural gas in your area. If you are facing furnace replacement and have the option to use natural gas to heat your home, this will be the less expensive option.
