Most gas furnaces last between 15 and 20 years and you can usually get 20 to 30 years out of an electric furnace. Another pro to their simple design is the lack of repairs that are usually needed. You also won’t need to worry about carbon monoxide issues with an electric furnace.

Natural Gas Furnaces

There is a reason that natural gas furnaces are the most common choice in homes. They may cost more upfront, but generally speaking it costs less to heat your house with natural gas rather than electricity. When they do kick on, you can count on a natural gas furnace heating your home in a fraction of the time that it takes an electric furnace as well. Really, the only reason you would want to go with an electric furnace would be if you didn’t have access to natural gas in your area. If you are facing furnace replacement and have the option to use natural gas to heat your home, this will be the less expensive option.
