AC Condenser Clearance
Surrounding the outdoor air conditioner unit, remove the branches, leaves, sticks or other debris. Clear away from the exterior unit any weeds have encroached around the unit, pull them out, trim back any grass and prune any trees and shrubs. Be sure keep at least 3 feet of clearance around the unit. Maintain the clutter, vegetation and debris is cleared away. Also, make sure the A/C unit is sitting level as well.
How to Clean Air Conditioner Condenser
It is critical you do not clean the unit unless it is turned off. Any dust, dirt, or other small debris from your unit and within the fins can be easily extracted. A wet/dry vacuum with soft-bristled attachment will extract any dust, dirt, or other small debris. If any of the fins are bent and need to be straightened to their original position, a fin comb or even a butter knife or other thin object is effective for straightening. Next, locate and remove the air conditioner’s filter if it the reusable type and use a strong spray nasal attachment to the garden hose, spray away the debris. You can consult the owner’s manual if you are uncertain where it is. Replace the dirty fiber or cardboard filter as needed. Simply remove the top access panel by taking out the screw and carefully placing the panel aside. Impeding the function of the unit is a condenser coil that has collected dirt, dust, debris and another build-up. To clean the bulk of the debris, the shop vac is effective. Without the pressure nozzle to spray away the remaining the residues, use a garden hose. To avoid causing damage to the coils or fins be careful when using the vacuum and hose. Replace the access panel and secure it with the screws after everything is clean and the layers of dust and debris are thoroughly removed. Flip the unit back on after the access panel is replaced.
