Loud Humming or Buzzing AC Noise

An air conditioner will make a soft humming noise when it is running. When your air conditioner is making a louder humming noise than what is usual or it is making a buzzing noise, this can point to a failing capacitor as well. If your home is feeling warmer or the air conditioner seems to have a hard time starting up along with the noises, this is most likely a failing capacitor.

Air Conditioner Switches Off

If the air conditioner switches off before the cycle was completed, the common problem is that the blower motor capacitor has failed. The second step to the cooling system is the blower, which circulates the cool air through the air ducts and into the home. If the air conditioner was running normally and suddenly shuts off, then this often points to the failure of the blower’s motor capacitor.

If you notice your air conditioner seems to have a hard time starting up, this is often due to a failing compressor motor capacitor. The first component to start the cooling cycle is the compressor. If the compressor isn’t starting, the capacitor is dead. However, if the air conditioner struggles to start then the capacitor is wearing down and needs to be replaced.
