Whatever kind of heating system you are using there are some mistakes that many people make. These mistakes can cost you money and wear out your heating system.

Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning Lists Mistakes to Avoid When Using Your Heating System

Increase The Temperature On A Cold Day: When you start using your heater you may likely decide one day it is just cool enough that you want to start it up. That day might be chilly but not outright cold. When you start the heating system most people set the digital thermostat with a schedule that is good for that time of the year. As the winter weather gets colder the house might feel colder. When you come home on one of those really cold days and the house is feeling colder than normal you might want to go over to the thermostat to turn the heat up! The mistake that people make during this circumstance is that they go to the thermostat and turn the heat up a bunch of degrees. The heater now thinks that it needs to work overtime to get to a degree that will be comfortable. This can be done when you adjust the temperature slightly. The house will warm up and become comfortable when you choose a degree that is still within the normal temperature that you want. Adjusting by a degree or two for an exceptionally cool day is good enough to warm up the house.
Turning Off Ceiling Fans: Most people think that their ceiling fans are good for the summer to help cool the house down. Fans are not actually doing any cooling at all! The only job that they have is to help move the air around that area of the room. When you sit near the fan you will feel cooler because it is pushing the air against your skin that has moisture from the heat. When the house starts to get cold people shut off the fans but that is a mistake. In the cold days outside most people turn off the fans but you don’t want to do that. The fans can be switched to rotate the opposite direction which will actually help move the heated air around the house saving you on running your heater.
