Here at Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning we pride ourselves on staying on top of the latest technology, techniques, and methods in the air conditioning business. We strive to provide our customers with quality products and service. One of the more popular advances in air conditioning systems has been the mini split air conditioning system. You may have heard it referred to as a ductless split system as well. Today we are going to highlight the mini split air conditioning system so that you understand it more fully than you do right now.
How Does a Mini Split Air Conditioner Work?
First let’s talk about how mini split systems work. When you have a traditional air conditioning unit the compressor and the condenser on the outside of your home are what keep your unit running. This is the same the same with a mini split system. The difference between the two types of air conditioning systems is that the traditional air conditioning system requires an air duct system to help get the air from outside of your home to inside your home. A mini split system does not require a duct system. They use discreet wall mounted blowers to pump the refrigerant directly from the thin copper tubing instead.
Mini Split Energy Efficiency Savings
Next up is some of the benefits of installing a mini split air conditioning system. The largest benefit of the mini split system is that it is extremely energy efficient. Studies show that traditional air conditioning systems lose 25% or more of energy through the air duct system. Taking the need for an air duct system out of the equation automatically saves you money. In addition to this, ductless models have an inverter-driven compressor. These compressors speed up and slow down based the needs of your system. Traditional compressors shut off entirely when they are not needed and then consume large amount of energy to turn back on.
Easy Mini Split Installation
Another advantage of the ductless system is that they are easier to install than traditional air conditioning units. In order to install a traditional air conditioning system, you have to design and install a ductwork system. For the mini split system, the hook-up between the outdoor and indoor components of the unit typically only require a three-inch hold through a wall for the conduit. The conduits are made in a variety of lengths for increased flexibility. You can put your ductless system in an inconspicuous place outside your home and use a longer conduit to run it to the necessary location.
Ductless Mini Split Improves Indoor Air Quality
In addition to the other advantages, ductless air conditioning systems also improve the indoor air quality of your home. Since the air does not have to travel though an airduct system, it stays cleaner. You will have less dust and allergens in your home with a mini split system.
