Common AC Problems that Need Repair in Las Vegas, NV; Warm Air from Vents, Loud Noises & More

It is coming to the end of the summer season, and all throughout the season, your air conditioner has been working hard to keep your home cool and comfortable. As the cooling season is coming to an end, you may begin to notice some odd behaviors from your home air conditioner. It is not uncommon for an air conditioner to develop problems as it works hard during the long and hot summer season. When an air conditioner develops a problem it is best to tend to the repairs now before you forget about them. If you are unsure if your air conditioner needs repairs, Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning will share some of the common, end of the year repairs and their symptoms.

Warm Air Coming From Vents

If you have noticed that your air conditioner has begun blowing warm air from the air vents this is a sign there is a problem. Throughout the summer season your air conditioner has run countless cycles. During this time, your evaporator coil may have become dirty, preventing the air from cooling down. At the end of the summer, the coils can become covered in a muddy grime like substance that needs to be cleaned. If the coils are not dirty, the compressor may have developed a problem. The compressor moves the refrigerant that helps to create the cool air. The compressor may need to be replaced if it has burned out. Lastly, warm air could be a sign of a refrigerant leak. The leak will need to be detected, repaired and the air conditioner recharged.

Loud and Unusual AC Noises

If your air conditioner has suddenly begun making a lot of noises by the end of the summer, this is not good. An air conditioner can develop a number of different noises and each points to a certain problem. Some of the common noises an air conditioner may develop are:
• Hissing Noise – Which is a sign of a refrigerant leak.
• Buzzing or Humming Noise – Which is a sign of an electrical problem.
• Banging Noise – When you hear banging noises, a screw or part has become loose or has broken off.
• Screeching Noise – Screeching occurs when metal is grinding on metal or it is the sound of a motor overheating.
If you here any of these noises coming from your air conditioner, turn off the cooling system and have the air conditioner checked and repaired.

Short Cycling AC Problems

Short cycles is when an air conditioner will start up but turn off before the cooling cycle is finished. Short cycles can develop for a number of different reasons. One reason short cycles occur is when the unit is overheating. If the unit overheats, the air conditioner will turn itself off to prevent potential damage. The reason behind the overheating will need to be determined and then repaired. Short cycling can also occur when there is a refrigerant leak or even when there is a problem with the air conditioner’s electrical system. Again the reason behind the short cycle will need to be located and repaired.
