What Are the Common Causes of Air Conditioner Handler Failures in Summerlin North, NV? Expect a Higher Level of Service

When you have a split central air conditioning system there are two units. One is the condenser which is outside the home and the second unit is the air handler which is most often found in the attic. However, location can vary. The air handler houses a few different components. The primary ones are the evaporator coils and the blower motor. As the air handler houses some of the vital components of the cooling system, it is no surprise that a number of things can go wrong. Air Supply Heating & Air Conditioning will share some of these problems.

What Happens when Evaporator Coils are Dirty?

When the air conditioner struggles to cool down the home this is often due to the evaporator coils. Evaporator coils can become very dirty. It is natural for the evaporator coil to develop condensation if a lot of dust and debris contacts the evaporators while they have condensation on them. The dirt will then get stuck on the coils. Once the coil becomes too dirty, the coils fail to remove the heating from the air. Common signs that the evaporator coil is dirty are ice buildup and warm air coming from the vents. When you have both symptoms it is time to have the evaporator coils cleaned. It is highly recommended to have the coils cleaned by a professional as they can become damaged fairly easily.

What Can Cause a Blower Motor to Stop Working?

The blower motor is another major component found inside the air handler. The blower pushes the cool air through the air duct system and into the home. Not only does the air handler move the cool air, it will also move the heated air during the winter season. The blower works during both cooling and heating seasons. As a result the blower and its motor demands a lot of maintenance and will, at some point in the HVAC system’s life, need to be replaced. You can often hear the blower motor as it begins to wear out. It will make loud screeching noises when it runs. Another common sign that the blower is failing is when the air flow feels weak or is not even present. The blower and its motor should be cleaned and lubricated to ensure that it runs more effectively and lasts longer.

Dirty Air Filters

The return vents connect directly to the air handler. To keep the evaporator coils clean you must change out the air filters often. Dirty air filters can also restrict the air flow when the air inside the home is being sucked up through the air handler. The air flow restriction adds a lot of stress to the air handler and leads to a number of problems, including premature wear and tear. To extend the life of the air handler and reduce the cost in repairs you must change out the air filters. The air filters should be changed out on average one to three months at a time.
