September has arrived! The month of September means the beginning of cooler temperatures and the first official day of fall are on their way. Here in Las Vegas the temperature has been soaring for months and all of our air conditioning units have been working hard to keep our houses cool. The thought of the temperatures starting to drop is music to our ears. Is your air conditioning unit as prepared for fall as you are?

Minimum Clearance Around Air Conditioning Condenser

There are many things you can do to get your air conditioning unit ready for fall. As the leaves begin to fall you will want to make sure that you regularly clean up the leaves in your yard so that they do not inhibit the function of your unit. You will want to clean the debris from around your unit now and then continue to do it routinely. Debris can inhibit air flow and cause your system to work harder and wear down sooner than necessary.

Best Temperature to Set Thermostat in Fall

When those cooler days begin they do not stick at first. If you have lived in the Las Vegas area for very long you know that it will be hot, then cold, then hot, then cold for a few months before officially leaving the hotter temperatures behind. Many people will ask us what is best for their air conditioning unit during these months. We do not recommend that you turn your system off. When you turn your system off on the cooler days and then back on for the warmer days your unit is working harder than necessary when you turn it back on. Instead of turning it off we recommend just setting your thermostat at a higher temperature. If you have your thermostat set for a temperature that you can feel comfortable in and the weather outside is cooler your unit will not turn on anyways. The thermostat will regulate your air conditioning usage the most efficient way possible.

Central Air Conditioner & Furnace Maintenance

We also recommend that you have your air conditioning maintenance work done. Our technicians here at Air Supply Heating and Air Conditioning can come out and thoroughly inspect your unit and make sure that the electrical components are functioning properly, the coils and filters are clean, pumps are lubricated and the flow rate is correct, the belts are properly adjusted and aligned, the blowers are clean and balanced, and more. During the fall visit we will clean the burner assembly, remove soot from fireside of burner, clean and check the operation of the humidifier, inspect the heat exchange for cracks, and adjust the air-to-fuel ratio of burner and performance of combustion analysis. When all of these things are properly functioning you will be able to heat your home effectively and efficiently.
